Jacob Mason, 17, of Belleville, a 2015 graduate of Milan High School, has been accepted at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
He is the son of Dan and Cheryl Mason and the brother of Josh.
Jacob is a member of the Air Force Reserve and the ROTC. On May 26 he accepted command of the MI-260 Willow Run Composite Squadron. That’s the same day he learned he would be going to the Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.
Jacob graduated from Eastern Michigan University’s Early College Alliance program. He holds down a full-time job at the Wayne/Westland school district.
He recently received one of Civil Air Patrol’s most prestigious cadet honors, the General Billy Mitchell Award.
Jacob said that hard work and determination have pushed him to excel.
“My parents and family were always behind me 100% and instilled a good, hard work ethic. A Christian home with a loving and supportive family helps, too!” he said.
Jacob had planned to continue his education at EMU earning a bachelor’s degree in Flight Technology, while also earning his pilot license. Then, after graduation, he planned on enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he planned to use his degree and training to work as a search and rescue pilot.
Now his plans have been escalated and he’s on his way to the academy.
