M. Jack Knowles, who resigned as Van Buren Township Director of Planning and Economic Development in 2015, is running unopposed in the Aug. 2 primary election for supervisor of Scio Township in Washtenaw County on the Democratic ticket.
Presently, Knowles is serving as a trustee on the Scio Township Board.
In his resignation letter to VBT Supervisor Linda Combs, which was printed May 7, 2015 by the Independent, Knowles explained his decision, which included a criticism of Trustee Jeff Jahr’s treatment of him and other employees:
“… In addition to his inaccurate statements, his occasional flippant attitude and snippy remarks to both the Supervisor and myself are inexcusable for an elected official. Personally, I do not have time for such unprofessional, childish behavior…”
Knowles retired from a career as an architect before joining VBT. After he left VBT, he was Senior Entitlement Manager of Woodspring Suites, an extended-stay hotel based in Wichita, KS.
Trustee Jahr filed for re-election as trustee on the township board by the April 19 deadline and then withdrew his name from the running.
Ronald Akers took over as director of planning and economic development on Aug. 17, 2015.
So, Mr. Knowles will be the Scio Twp Supervisor. Congratulations Mr. Knowles, and Good Luck in your new position.
