A single-story mobile home at 57 Rose Blvd. was well-involved in fire and the occupants were out of the home when Van Buren Township fire fighters arrived at 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
Fire Chief Dan Besson said there were no injuries and the loss is estimated at $30,000. Two surrounding homes were damaged by the intense heat.
He said VBT police and fire were dispatched to the home in the Mobile Manor Complex off Sumpter Road 11:40 p.m.
At the time of the call, both Duty Crews were assisting Huron Valley Ambulance paramedics with an unresponsive patient near South I-94 Service Drive and Quirk Road. At 11:41 p.m. both the North and South Duty Crews were cleared from the EMS call by HVA paramedics and responded to the house fire.
Mobile Manor does not have hydrants inside, so Captain Anthony Karver requested mutual aid from the City of Belleville and Sumpter Township fire departments to help shuttle water to the Van Buren fire trucks.
Chief Besson explained that shuttling is a practice of filling the truck with water at a distant hydrant, delivering it to the scene in order to fill other fire trucks with water, and then returning for more water.
Chief Besson said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Public Safety Chaplains were contacted to help set the family up with temporary housing and other needs.
Fire fighters remained on the scene to verify any smoldering fire had been extinguished until the last unit cleared at 2:59 a.m.
Responding to the fire from VBT were Engines 1, 2, and 3, Squad 1, and Utility 1 and 2.
