A small kitten was thrown out of a car on Main Street, between First and Second streets in Belleville, on Friday afternoon, June 27.
A witness on the sidewalk alerted a person going to her parked car that the kitten had run under her car. She didn’t start the car and the kitten started crying out from inside the engine.
Soon Belleville fire fighters and Mr. Muffler mechanics began the rescue. They were trying to approach the kitten from underneath the engine to encourage it to come out the top. The engine cover was removed. Gloves were donned, since the kitten was biting.
Yvette Gorecki, Independent office manager, soon was able to snatch the kitten from inside the engine and wrap it in her shirt. Gorecki, who used to work at Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue, said she would raise the kitten in her Sumpter Township home until it could be neutered and then adopt it out.
The kitten was named “Caddy” because it climbed under a Cadillac.
