School is out for the summer, so it’s up to us to teach our children the history lessons being put before us daily over the past few weeks. Make sure the young people pay attention because U.S. history is being made every day and they will look back on these days in the future and know they were there.
Our present students were yet to be born on Sept. 11, 2001 when the U.S. was attacked and thousands killed. Some say they don’t know anything about it. How can that be? It changed the U.S. forever.
Now major events are taking place that also will affect the country’s history.
This summer there was an early Presidential debate that led to soul-searching and decisions. Then, there was a rally with major security lapses where a young man tried to kill the former President who was about to be nominated by his party to run for the office again. The shooter killed a father who shielded his family behind the former President and seriously injured others – and then the shooter was killed.
Later, the sitting President of the United States at the last minute decided not to run for reelection and his party has to find the right people to win on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Sit your children down and teach them history in the making. You are the history teacher this summer and this is important information for our future voters. A free nation depends on an informed electorate.
