This is the week to see all of the local township candidates on your Aug. 2 primary election ballot.
People who found previous candidate forums here unprofessional called on the League of Women Voters for help.
A local group was formed under the wings of the Northwestern Wayne League of Women Voters. And, the experienced League of Women Voters personnel will run the candidate forum for VBT from 7 to 9 p.m. today (June 16) at Wayne County Community College on Haggerty Road. Local members of the LWV will volunteer as greeters and timers and other jobs.
The LWV also is having the forum video-recorded to be shown so those not attending can see the candidates.
Sumpter Township candidates will be available at next Wednesday’s forum (June 22) at the Sumpter Township Community Center, also from 7 to 9 p.m. This, too, will be recorded to show on the Sumpter Township cable channel.
The August primary is important here because all but one of the candidates in VBT and Sumpter Township are Democrats. That means the candidates winning the Democratic primaries probably will be unopposed in November.
Get to know these candidates. Take a look at them in person and find out their backgrounds before you vote. The next four years in your township depends on the Aug. 2 primary election.
I did want to hear what all had to say, but all of them did not show up. 1 trustee was absent, I guess he doesn’t want our votes.
Yes, I noticed too that one Trustee was absent. Someone in the audience commented that maybe he was somewhere releasing raccoons!
This candidate forum was due to the hard work of Barbara Miller contacting the League of Women Voters and organizing a group to volunteer for this very professional organization. I believe the woman that was at the podium is also the mayor of the City of Wayne.
We watched the video and were disturbed by the undertone that Mr. Hart displayed. He didn’t answer the deficit/shortfall questions as we hoped. For that reason, we changed our minds on Supervisor. I believe this forum was the key to helping people make an educated decision. Good luck to all candidates and bless you for having the courage to run in a community that is under much distress. We definitely need a change for the good.
The candidate forum for sumpter had problems with their microphones so it was hard to hear the candidates. I sat in the back of the room and 2 residents were talking about one of the candidates running for sumpter trustee. It was said that this candidate also works at VBT & was heavily involved in the recall in VBT. If this is true then I will not vote for that candidate since the recall was unfair and undemocratic.
Yes, that is true and she was heavily involved in the recall.
Thanks for the confirmation as this showed an absolute disrespect for the vote of the people.
She was on the “Save Champagne” bandwagon. It had nothing to do with democratic values. I really wonder what she will contribute to Sumpter Township. We need people with a good grasp on community values and monetary understanding.
And we don’t need Van Buren politics being dragged into Sumpter.
If she was on the “save champagne” bandwagon then it was at the cost of the voters of VBT because they wanted a new administration which is why the recall failed.
I think she will contribute in ways related to curbside recycling and addressing blight. I thnk she realizes that Sumpter Township is rich in history and their rural atmosphere must be preserved.
