No matter whether you are happy or sad with the results of Tuesday’s General Election, you’ve got to hand it to the people who worked so hard for their candidates or proposals.
On Tuesday night, an exhausted volunteer for the Democrat Party was at Belleville City Hall seeking voting information. She said she had been working 12 hours a day for 98 days (the August primary) and was exhausted. A volunteer was supposed to go to St. Anthony Church, the polling location for the city of Belleville, to get the number of ballots cast, but that person was new and went to St. Anthony in Detroit instead. She showed a picture of herself asleep on some folding chairs the night before.
Joy Cichewicz was in the Sumpter Township Hall Tuesday night after being at the polls all day promoting the district library proposals. She was exhausted but encouraged because this time the voters didn’t call her names and gave her a thumbs up. They weren’t so kind for the first proposal by the library board.
At Van Buren Township Hall Tuesday night, Reggie Miller, seeking reelection as trustee, also was exhausted. She had been out at the polls since early morning and had been rained on. She went through several pairs of dry socks – and her shoes were supposed to be waterproof.
These are but a few examples of the dedication and drive people exhibited for this election. Bless them all. It’s over.
