Booville in Bellevillle is for face painting, scarecrow decorating, diving for coins in straw, pumpkin cutting, pub crawls, and dressing up like witches.
It’s for fun and games in hopes of bringing people downtown to see what the city has to offer.
But the really scary part of October in these parts is the school district in panic mode trying to stay out of state control; the budget sessions in Van Buren Township, trying to stay out of state control when Visteon’s bonds are due; and Belleville’s election for mayor and council, with city residents seeking respect for those who go into harm’s way to fight their fires.
We have no problem with playtime for adults, but the quality of life for residents of the tri-community is at stake now and we just can’t keep dancing around and turning our heads.
A handful of people attend the infrequent school board meetings. Few speak up. People are too busy to care about how our future leaders are being educated or too hesitant to speak up because of the chilling rules the board has put in place.
VBT board meetings now have an armed police officer in attendance in case someone offends the board by speaking up too exuberantly and needs to be escorted from the building.
These are scary times, indeed. Look around. Boo!
