Three large DTE electrical generators are now set up on Davis Street next to the railroad tracks and across from Burhop’s Collision in Belleville. Two of them had been located across South Street behind the strip mall near the mill until recently.
The large generators are monitored by a person in a running car parked next to them. Neighbors in the nearby residential area say when it is hot and air conditioners in the area are running, the generators are very loud and belch clouds of black diesel fuel smoke.
A message on the side of one generator says: “More power to you! This generator is temporarily providing you with safe, reliable electricity.” When they were on the other side of the street, city officials explained that DTE used the generators to support the city’s power grid.
