Local resident Doug Brown will tell the story of his service in the Army during the Korean War in a special event at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at Belleville First United Methodist Church, 417 Charles St.
Veterans are encouraged to attend and the public is welcome to attend the event being put on in honor of Veteran’s Day.
When he was in the military, Brown was given a special assignment with the White House Press Corps where he served as a photographer and had the opportunity to spend four days traveling with President Harry S. Truman.
Before the days of television, the camera was the eye on the world and Brown had the opportunity to capture history in the making.
He will share some of his photos and experiences and a dessert reception will follow.
Brown retired as Director of Curriculum at the Van Buren Public Schools after a career as educator.
