A grant of $3,300 was presented by CVS Pharmacy to CAF 5 to provide eyeglasses to needy children in the 34th District Court area: Belleville, Van Buren, Sumpter, Huron, and Romulus.
CAF, which stands for the Community Assistance Foundation, is run by volunteers.
CAF member Karen Mida said the grant will help children who don’t test well on vision when in school and their family can’t afford eyeglasses. She said the grant will buy the glasses.
The grant was written by Tammy Kennedy, Mida’s daughter, who did it as part of a class in her Master’s program. She got the grant.
Mida said that CAF covers five communities, so they plan to start with the Van Buren Schools and then do the other communities, too.
Details are still being worked out and Mida said she wants to wait until the new Van Buren Superintendent Pete Kudlak has settled in before bringing the proposal to him.
