Police believe an expensive pair of Cartier sunglasses were thrown out of the window of a moving vehicle just before midnight on Jan. 9 in the route from Meijer’s to the corner of Tyler and Haggerty roads. They are still missing.
This is what happened, according to Van Buren Township Police Lt. Ernie Thornsbury.
A local man who was trying to sell a pair of Cartier sunglasses on Craig’s List called the police on Jan. 9 reporting he had just been ripped off.
Lt. Thornsbury said it is still an open case, but this is what he can report.
The local man set up a meeting for a person who wanted to buy the glasses for $900. They met at the Van Buren Township Meijer store.
The suspect grabbed these glasses and ran to a running vehicle in the Meijer lot. The seller was able to follow and get a license plate.
Lt. Thornsbury said police were able to stop the suspect vehicle at Tyler and Haggerty roads and two people were taken into custody.
But, the sun glasses were not recovered.
“We believe they were thrown from the moving suspect vehicle. We could not find them,” Lt. Thornsbury said.
