Jesse Duane Stamper, 28, and Hunter David Range, 31, both of Ypsilanti, had their live preliminary exams before 34th District Court Chief Judge Brian Oakley on Sept. 1 and then were both bound over to circuit court for a Sept. 15 arraignment on the information.
On Sept. 15, a calendar conference was set for Sept. 30 before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Shannon Walker.
They are charged with the felonies of first-degree home invasion and unarmed robbery, along with aggravated assault on June 24 in Van Buren Township.
Each has a personal bond of $250,000. Judge Oakley agreed to order the removals of tethers from both defendants.
A third co-defendant, Derrick Wayne Houchlei, 42, of Brockway, MI, is yet to be arrested, and Van Buren Township Police Department have announced nationwide extradition.
On Sept. 1, complaining witness Derrick Gabbard testified, saying he had just gotten out of bed in the afternoon when somebody knocked on the door. He answered and he said three men burst into his home and punched and kicked him. They pushed in into a large picture on the wall in his bedroom which broke and cut open his head, bringing lots of blood. He said they threw large objects at him and he was able to jump out the bedroom window and try to run away. He said they followed him, pushed him down and took his cell phone. He said they had been asking for a female who was his roommate with two of her children. He was hospitalized for his injuries and testified he already was taking medication for another traumatic brain injury that occurred in 2004.
Under cross-examination, he was told that the woman roommate accused him of violence against her and the children and he replied, “That’s what I heard.” He testified that he has never hurt anybody.
