Antwon Sherrod Reid, 26, on April 12 agreed to plead guilty in 34th District Court to fleeing police in a vehicle and the second charge for making police engage in a foot chase to catch him was to be dismissed, along with the label of habitual criminal.
The incident occurred on Oct. 29 in Sumpter Township.
Reid with his attorney had come to the plea agreement with the Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor for Reid to plead guilty to the Flee & Elude charge with the other charges to be dismissed. However, that plea deal could not be facilitated at the District Court level.
The defense then waived the preliminary exam and Judge David Parrott scheduled Reid for an arraignment on the information at circuit court on April 19.
Reid had been lodged in the Wayne County Jail on $5,000/10% bond. Officer in charge of the case is Sumpter Sgt. Brian Steffani.
Wayne Robert Scott
Wayne Robert Scott, 54, was scheduled to have his preliminary exam on April 12 at the 34th District Court. He was charged with identity theft, possession of a financial transaction device, and illegal sale or use of a financial transaction device on March 20 in Van Buren Township.
He was free after posting bond of $5,000/10%.
But on April 12, the victim was not present at court because she had to take her mother to the hospital, so the case was dismissed. VBT Police Detective Donovan McCarthy said the case probably will not be refiled.
Justin Edward Nelson, III
Justin Edward Nelson, III, 42, had been charged with two counts of eavesdropping for installing cameras in his home without telling his wife on July 12, 2016 in the city of Belleville. He was free on $5,000/10% personal bond.
At his probable cause conference on April 12 before Judge Parrott, the charges against Nelson were dismissed by the Prosecutor’s Office with the notation that his wife doesn’t want to prosecute and “never wished to prosecute.”
Officer in charge of the case is Belleville Officer Jeff Wickham. Cpl. Todd Schrecengost was in court for the probable cause conference.
