Devin Michael Beach
Devin Michael Beach, 27, of Sumpter Township was scheduled for three preliminary examinations on Aug. 14 for charges from Sumpter and Van Buren Township.
Notice of the exams was sent to the Wayne County Jail saying he must be present. Defense attorney Tyrone Bickerdt of Neighborhood Defender Service failed to appear, so the three exams were rescheduled for Oct. 30.
Case 23-0732 contains charges of possession of methamphetamine, open container, and carrying a concealed weapon on Jan. 2, 2023 in Sumpter Township.
Case 24-0436 contains possession of methamphetamine and driving while license suspended on May 6, 2023 in Sumpter Township.
Case 24-0125 contains possession of methamphetamine, carrying a concealed weapon, and weapons on Feb. 21, 2024 in Van Buren Township.
Personal bond is $5,000.
Bryson Daniul McKeever
Bryson Daniul McKeever, 27, of Springfield, OH, was video-arraigned in custody on June 5, 2023 by Judge Martin on charges of domestic violence and malicious destruction of personal property on June 3, 2023 in Van Buren Township. His in-person court hearing before Judge Oakley was set for June 13, 2023 and bond is $5,000/10%. He did not appear and so a warrant was issued for his arrest. A show-cause hearing was set for July 19, 2023 and he failed to appear. On July 24, 2023 a bench warrant was signed. On Aug. 9, 2023 bond was forfeited.
Phillip Shawn Barnhart
Phillip Shawn Barnhart, 55, of Sumpter Township was arraigned on a bench warrant by video while in custody June 6 by Judge Martin on charges of operating while intoxicated-3 and driving while license suspended on Jan. 10, 2023 in Van Buren Township. The probable cause conference was set for June 14, 2023 and then adjourned until July 12, 2023. A live exam was set for July 19, 2023. Personal bond was $5,000.
On July 19, 2023 he pled guilty to a reduced charge of driving while intoxicated-2 and the DWLS charge was dismissed. The plea relies on him completing his outpatient substance-abuse treatment. No jail time will be required. Judge Green turned the case over to the probation department for other sentence recommendations. He failed to appear for sentencing on Oct. 10, 2023 and a bench warrant was issued.
Willie Earl McCorkle, Jr.
Willie Earl McCorkle, Jr., 36, of Saline, was arraigned by Magistrate Al Hindman on June 7 on bench warrants on three charges for driving without a valid license.
It was on July 10, 2022 and Sept. 14, 2022 in Sumpter Township and on April 13, 2022 in Huron Township.
He was scheduled for a remote pre-trial by zoom on July 13, 2022 for all three cases, but he failed to appear. Personal bonds were set for $3,000 each on the Sumpter cases and $2,000/10% bond was set for the Huron Township offense. A warrant was signed for his arrest.
Michael Ryan Stanley
Michael Ryan Stanley, 41, of Ecorse, failed to appear June 14, 2023 for his remote arraignment/pretrial and so a bench warrant was issued and the case was set for a show-cause hearing on July 19. He again failed to appear. He is charged with license forgery/alteration and driving while license suspended in the city of Belleville on Oct. 14, 2018. On Aug. 9 his $5,000/10% bond was forfeited and $500 paid on his fine. The warrant continues.
Derrek Dewayne Mitchell
Derrek Dewayne Mitchell, 23, of Ypsilanti was charged with a registration / plate violation, driving while license suspended, and operation of a motor vehicle without security on June 1, 2023 in the city of Belleville. His arraignment / pretrial was set for June 28, 2023 but he did not appear. A default judgment was generated and a penalty added for the registration/plate violation. He was scheduled for an Aug. 9, 2023 show-cause hearing for failure to appear for the DWLS and security offenses. On Aug. 9 he failed to appear and a bench warrant was issued.
On Nov. 1, 2023 he was scheduled for a bench warrant arraignment, but it was removed from the calendar because he was sent to the hospital for medical reasons while in custody with the Belleville P.D. A bench warrant was issued for failure to appear.
A remote arraignment/pretrial was set for Dec. 6, 2023 and then adjourned until Jan. 10, 2024. Bond was set at $3,000 personal. Another warrant on a failure to appear was lifted and a show cause hearing was to be held. Notice came from the post office that it was unable to deliver the court notice. A bench warrant was issued on Jan. 26.
Stanley V. Perkins
Stanley V. Perkins, 30, of the city of Belleville, was arraigned July 7, 2023 while in custody at the Romulus Police Department. He is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault), child abuse-4th degree, and domestic violence. Judge Martin set a bond of $10,000/10% and he is to have no contact with the victim. The probable cause conference was set for July 19, 2023.
On July 19, 2023 he was in court by zoom from the Wayne County Jail and the preliminary exam was set for Aug. 23, but at that time he waved his exam and his case was bound over to circuit court for a Sept. 6 arraignment on the information. His defense attorney Thomasine Jefferson had asked Judge Green for personal bond and a GPS tether and the judge granted the request. The attorney said he has been employed two weeks and his job is being saved for him, his girlfriend is pregnant and will deliver Sept. 11, and there are no other cases pending against him.
The Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor said the charge is felonious assault with a motor vehicle and child abuse 4 because a child was in the car he used to try to ram the victim his ex or estranged wife.
A calendar conference was set for Oct. 23, 2023 and then adjourned to Nov. 15, 2023. Final conference was Jan. 25, 2024 then adjourned to Jan. 30, 2024. A pretrial was set for March 11 and a bench trial on April 1.
The bench trial was canceled when the defendant pled guilty to domestic violence and the two other charges were dismissed.
On April 19 he was sentenced to fees of $1,528 or 150 hours of community service in lieu of fees, along with one year of probation.
Tatyana Victoriya Fitzgerald
Tatyana Victoriya Fitzgerald of Detroit, was video-arraigned by Magistrate Hindman while in custody at the Van Buren Township Police Department on a charge of defrauding an innkeeper on July 19, 2023. Personal bond was set at $5,000 and her pretrial scheduled for Aug. 3, 2023. At that time, arraignment/pretrial was set for Sept. 7, 2023 and then adjourned to Oct. 5, 2023 and a notice to appear was generated and was to be hand-served by the defendant’s attorney.
A remote show-cause/pretrial was set for Dec. 7, 2023. She failed to appear so a bench warrant was ordered.
Zachariah Allan Hruska-Dennis
Zachariah Allan Hruska-Dennis of Ypsilanti was charged with breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property more than $200 on June 17, 2023 in Van Buren Township. He was scheduled for a remote arraignment/pre-trial appearance by zoom on July 26, 2023 but did not appear. A show cause hearing was set for Aug. 30, 2023 but he failed to appear. A bench warrant was issued.
Eric Anthony Toncevich
Eric Anthony Toncevich, 47, of Sumpter Township was arraigned Aug. 4, 2023 by Judge Oakley on a charge of receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle on Aug. 3, 2023 in Van Buren Township. Personal bond was set at $10,000 and his probable cause conference scheduled for Aug. 16, 2023 and then adjourned to Aug. 30, 2023 but the information on the new date was unable to be delivered per the post office. On Sept. 7, 2023 a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
Essex Fail
Essex Fail, 83, of Van Buren Township petitioned the court to set aside a 2009 conviction of domestic violence from a 2001 arrest. There have been no convictions since then and he had a letter from the attorney general supporting the set aside. His attorney Michael Parish asked for the conviction to be set aside so his client can get on with his life. Judge Martin granted the motion to set aside the conviction.
Dennis Austin Thick
Dennis Austin Thick, 53, of Belleville had a pretrial on Aug. 9 for charges of stalking and disturbing the peace on July 28, 2023 in Van Buren Township. He was arraigned July 31 and personal bond was $10,000. He was not to be released without a GPS tether and must not return to 9800 Belleville Rd. or an address on Peninsular. A remote pretrial was set for Aug. 23 and then a remote arraignment for Sept. 6.
On Aug. 30 he was present for video arraignment and probable cause conference while in custody at the Van Buren Police Department for four more sets of charges, totaling ten different infractions on Aug. 20 and 21 in Van Buren Township and two in Sumpter Township on Aug. 20 all involving fleeing from police, police officer assault and reckless driving. A preliminary exam was set for Oct. 11 and cash bond at $500,000.
On Oct. 11, pretrials by zoom were set for Nov. 1 for the misdemeanors and he waived his preliminary exams on three batches of felonies and was bound over to circuit court for an Oct. 18 arraignment on the information. The defendant can be released on personal recognizance bond if he goes directly to treatment. Calendar conference was set for Oct. 27. Final conference was Nov. 10 and pretrial was Dec. 4.
For his remote pretrials on malicious destruction of property, stalking and disturbing the peace he was present and the remote pretrials were adjourned to Nov. 11 and then Nov. 15 to try and follow the felony trials in circuit court. Remote pretrials were set for Dec. 6. At that time one more adjournment was set until Jan. 17, 2024 after the Jan. 12 circuit court cases hopefully will have a global plea deal including these.
On Jan. 17, his attorney said his client was supposed to be in a globally settled group of cases. He’s in Veteran Defenders Court and his attorney asked for adjournment to check on the status. The zoom pretrial was adjourned to Feb. 7 when he pled guilty to a reduced charge of jostling (instead of stalking) and to disorderly disturbance. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail with credit for time served. He pled guilty to malicious destruction to the building and was fined $550.
In circuit court he pled guilty to the Aug. 20 charges of fleeing and assaulting a police officer in one group of charges and the reckless driving was dismissed. Sentencing was Feb. 21 and the charges were dismissed. A pretrial also was set for Feb. 21 on the charges of fleeing and assaulting a police officer and reckless driving on Aug. 20 and those charges were dismissed.
Scott Joseph Tupacz
Scotty Joseph Tupacz, 39, of Milan, was scheduled for his arraignment/probable cause conference on Aug. 9 on charges of police officer assault, fleeing and eluding a police officer, and operating while intoxicated on Dec. 29, 2022 in Sumpter Township. The charge was filed May 22, 2023 and the warrant was entered into LEIN on May 24. On Aug. 9 he was scheduled for a probable cause conference on Sept. 6. That was adjourned until Oct. 11. Personal bond was $1,000.
On Oct. 11, he pled guilty to a reduced charge of police officer-assault and operating while intoxicated. The fleeing/eluding charge was dismissed. The case was sent to the probation department for a recommendation on future sentencing. But he failed to submit completed paperwork as required and a show-cause hearing was set for Dec. 18. He was given a notice to appear at the probation counter.
Paperwork was completed and sentencing was set for Feb. 26, 2024. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation and a fine of $545 for police officer assault, operating while intoxicated a fine of $1,425, 30 days on the alcohol monitor, shall not consume alcohol or controlled substances without the judge’s approval, be subject to random tests, and obtain a substance abuse assessment within 30 days.
Martin Dean Fields
Martin Dean Fields, 51, of Van Buren Township was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct-2nd degree (against person under 13) on July 27 in Van Buren Township. He was arraigned July 28 and his probable cause conference was held on Aug. 9 by zoom from the Wayne County Jail. Bond had been $5,000/10%. On Aug. 9, Judge Oakley set the live preliminary exam for Aug. 16 and changed the bond to $5,000 personal recognizance with a GPS tether for location.
On Aug. 16, the preliminary exam was held by Judge Oakley and Fields was bound over to circuit court for an Aug. 30 arraignment on the information. Calendar conference was Sept. 15 adjourned to Sept. 22. Final conference was Nov. 17. Pretrial was set for Jan. 26 and a jury trial for April 22. But then, a plea of guilty to a new count of criminal sexual conduct, fourth degree (with variables) was accepted on Jan. 26 and the two original charges dismissed. The jury trial was canceled. On Feb. 20, he was fined $798 and sentenced to five years of probation. He also was placed on a Central Registry.
William Henry Trotter
William Henry Trotter, 52, of Trenton is charged with operating while intoxicated-3rd and driving while license suspended-2nd in the city of Belleville on Oct. 9. On Aug. 9 his probable cause conference was adjourned until Aug. 23 to wait for a deviation letter. On that date his preliminary exam was set for Oct. 4. At that time he waived his exam and was bound over to circuit court for an Oct. 18 arraignment on the information. Calendar conference was set for Nov. 1 and at that time he pled guilty to OWI-3rd and the other charge was dismissed. On Jan. 11 he was sentenced to five days of jail and credited for time served, two years of probation, and fees totaling $1,898.
Mackenzie Alexander Chandler
Mackenzie Alexander Chandler, 24, of Van Buren Township had his probable cause conference Aug. 9 on charges of breaking and entering of a building and larceny on July 29, 2023 in Van Buren Township. His probable cause conference was adjourned to Aug. 23, 2023 and he failed to appear. A warrant was signed for his arrest.
Hussain Saleh Al-Boudy
Hussain Saleh Al-Boudy, 55, of Sumpter Township is charged with two counts of violation of technical requirements in Sumpter Township on Aug. 15. He was present at 34th District Court for his arraignment pre-trial in person before Chief Judge Brian A. Oakley on Sept. 10.
Prosecutor Rob Young asked to speak to the defense attorney first and they left the courtroom together. Later defense attorney Joshua Lee Hadley said they agreed to adjourn the case until 8:30 a.m., Oct. 21, for a remote arraignment/pretrial by zoom before Judge Oakley.
Al-Boudy is the person neighbors have complained to the township board about for his slaughtering of animals near their homes.
