The Van Buren Township clerk’s office has announced that it has paid for all 2020 General Election Absentee ballot return postage for residents.
“We want to make voting accessible for all residents,” said Clerk Leon Wright. “Our goal is to make voting as easy as possible for all voters in VBT. If you decide to mail your ballot, you don’t need to put a stamp on it, however, we encourage voters to utilize the drop box in the front of the building.”
Absentee ballots will be mailed to residents by Friday, Sept. 25. The clerk’s office is asking that all residents fill out their ballots and mail them or drop them in the drop box at township hall, as soon as possible.
“During the August primary election, we had thousands of absentee ballots dropped off the day prior to and day of the election,” said Clerk Wright. “The sooner we have the ballots, the faster our counting will take place and the sooner results can be made available. When voters wait until the last minute, it delays our counting efforts.”
