A Christening dress was given to Robert and Mildred Baker of Belleville by Mildred’s parents, Lamber and Elizabeth Mida, upon the birth of their first child, Robert Jr., for his Christening.
It then was worn by their next two children, James and Joan. When the grandchildren started coming along, it was worn by all eight grandchildren for the baptisms: Natasha, Marcus, Robert III, Tara, Christopher, Stephanie, Elizabeth, and Glenn.
Then the great-grandchildren came along: Alison, Nicklas, Tyler, Joshua, Jack, Caroline, Emma, Nina, Eve, Edward, Gabriel, and pictured above, number 12, Joseph.
That makes 23 babies that have been baptized in this 74-year-old dress. Mildred Baker has had all of the names embroidered on the slip along with their date of birth. Boys’ names are in blue and the girls names are in pink. The shawl that is used at baptism was knitted by Mildred.
“Each time the dress is brought out of storage, it brings back many happy memories,” Mildred said.
Joseph Henry Jacobson, son of Scott and Stephanie Jacobson and great-grandson of Mildred Baker of Belleville, was born June 26.
Great-grandmother Mildred traveled with her daughter to California for baby Joseph’s baptism in August. Mildred has attended all 23 baptisms.
