Belleville Fire Department officials gathered at the June 1 city council meeting to honor 2015 Belleville High School graduate Bryce Walrath.
Present were Capt. Kris Rix, Fire Chief Brian Loranger, Lieutenant Chris Zweng, and Lieutenant Brian Blackburn.
Walrath worked with the Belleville Fire Department in pre-training for his goal to be an emergency crew member. He put in 44 hours with Belleville as part of a program through the Wayne-Westland schools and even had a fire department pager so he would get up in the middle of the night for Belleville emergency calls.
He did other projects with the department and they wrote a letter of recommendation for a scholarship. Walrath did win the $6,500 Todd Stanaway Memorial Paramedic Scholarship from the Michigan Academy of Emergency Services and Allied Health that is intended to cover complete paramedic training.
