Detroit’s 87th- annual Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature the Belleville High School Marching Band as it steps off just before 9 a.m. from its new starting point at Woodward and Kirby.
The whole, three-mile-long parade will be shown live on WDIV Channel 4 in Detroit and from 10 to 11 a.m. on NBC nationwide. WJR 760 AM will also broadcast the parade live.
A million parade-watchers are expected to watch along the route as the 60 parade units wind their way down Woodward Avenue and past Campus Martius where the parade will end at noon.
Grand Marshal of the Parade is former Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland.
Also in Thursday’s parade will be Louise Fincher, owner of Bladez hair salon in Belleville, who will be dressed as a Munchkin and, with her granddaughter, marching with the Wizard of Oz float.
The Parade Company invites Fincher to participate each year to honor the work she does to feed and clothe those living on the street in Detroit’s Cass Corridor.
“I’ll be the Munchkin with the big smile,” said Fincher.
