The Aug. 16 dedication of the new worship center at Bethany Bible Church drew a total of 657 people, counting those in the nursery and daycare.
During 2015, about 330 people have attended Sunday services at Bethany, which is located at 810 East Huron River Drive in Van Buren Township, just east of the borderline with the City of Belleville.
The two-hour special service featured many songs by the choir directed by John Losen, Jr. Pastor Duane Bonner thanked the building committee with plaques and introduced all the contractors who were present, telling them they would all get certificates of appreciation. Those who volunteered also were honored.
Pastor Bonner said last April the church was informed it got a $540,000 grant from the John C. Lasko Foundation Trust to support the construction of first-use worship space. Church members are taking part in a three-year pledge to fund the rest of the cost of construction.
Members of the Building Committee who were honored were chairman Kevin Losen, Paul Rice, Bob Newman, and Gerald Garland.
But, all were sure to say that while the building had lots of help from many people, it was constructed through the grace of God, who was given praise most of all.
