Two Belleville-area residents were arrested by Belleville Police following a home break-in at 5:45 p.m. Friday, June 3, in Victoria Commons.
Belleville Police Chief Gene Taylor said Officer Brett Putman was called to the 500 block of Thornhill by citizens who said they were keeping an eye on the two who had exited the house.
The house had been unoccupied, but the homeowners had just arrived home, Chief Taylor said.
Officer Putman arrested an 18-year-old female and a 22-year-old male, who had in their possession a stolen laptop and cash from the house, according to Chief Taylor.
On Monday, Rebecca Chapman was arraigned by 34th District Court on charges of home invasion and larceny, Chief Taylor said.
He said a warrant was being sought for the male in custody.
Menlo Park break-in
A second breaking and entering occurred on Sunday morning, but this time the house was occupied, Chief Taylor said.
He said police were called to Menlo Park by a woman who said she was home when, sometime between the hours of 3 and 6:45 a.m., an unknown subject entered her home and removed cash and her car keys, which were used to steal her car.
Cpl. Todd Schrencengost wrote the report that indicated entry was made through an open window. Police have leads in the case and are still investigating.
Anaheim attempt
Chief Taylor said on Friday a break-in alarm went off on Anaheim. Someone had removed the screen from an open window, but the alarm went off before entry could be made.
Chief Taylor and Cpl. Schrencengost responded to that alarm.
Chief Taylor urged people not to leave their windows open, even though they may be seeking a cool breeze in this hot weather.
He said they should take precautions to fix the window, with a rod or other instrument, so the window will not open enough to allow entry.
