The Belleville Downtown Development Authority has approved replacing the failing bricked crosswalk on Main Street at Denton and Liberty with stamped concrete.
The project, awarded to Blue Ribbon Contracting, began in late July and will run through early August. Blue Ribbon will replace half of the crosswalk on one side, and then switch sides to replace the other half.
DDA Coordinator Carol Thompson sent out a press release to explain the project, which will include some impact on traffic.
Main Street will remain open to two-way traffic during the repair work, with traffic lane shifts at the intersection, and no-left-turns posted.
Access to all businesses will remain open during the repair work, she said.
Brick removal, and concrete pouring, stamping, and curing will take about one week for each side.
The stamped concrete will resemble the other crosswalks in the downtown streetscape and will handle traffic and drainage better than the brick pavers, she said.
“Let’s keep workers and drivers safe,” Thompson said. “Please follow directional signage at the intersection.”
“Thank you for your understanding and patience,” she said.
