At its regular meeting June 4, the Belleville City Council approved a $2,031,972 balanced budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year beginning July 1.
The council also approved budget amendments to the 2011-12 budget that is ending up better than expected, allowing $10,279 to be put into the fund balance, instead of taking out $853 to balance the budget, as was forecast.
Molly Goike of Plante Moran financial consultants said the cemetery is doing better than expected. The city had planned to subsidize it by $30,861, but only $17,500 was needed.
The street funds did better because of a mild winter, the insurance from the house fire was used to demolish the building and pay off the amount owed for the property, state revenues are $88,246 higher than projected, and district court revenues are up.
The council had been working on the budget for some time at public meetings. When the public hearing was opened at the beginning of the meeting on Monday, no one from the audience had anything to say, so the public hearing was one minute long.
