The beaches have been closed at Van Buren Park in Van Buren Township and Sherwood Park in Sumpter Township because of high E-coli levels.
They will remain closed until new water samplings show they can be reopened.
VBT closed its beach on Aug. 11 after results of recent water samplings were emailed to the Parks and Recreation Department indicating the need to close the beach.
This closure means that no one is to enter the swimming area nor should they access the beach, neither from land or water.
“Once we receive data which indicates that the beach can re-open, we will post the announcement,” said the VBT Nixle alert.
Sumpter Township announced at its board meeting Aug. 9 that Wayne County Health Department had closed Sherwood Park’s beach was closed due to high E-coli levels.
Sumpter Supervisor John Morgan said the problem is because of low and stagnant water caused by no rain.
