Philip Kovach of Sumpter Township and Louis Kovach of Van Buren Township announce the creation of an art scholarship in memory of their mother, who died Aug. 8 at the age of 92.
Jane Kovach was a local artist who understood the importance of art in people’s lives. This scholarship is offered to continue her legacy and is available to any Belleville-area art student who wishes to pursue the arts through education.
Her sons say this scholarship is based on Jane’s passion, creativity, understanding, and just plain hard work that it takes to be involved with the arts. Applicants should share in Jane’s never-ending pursuit of education and improvement of one’s artistic ability through its application.
A $500 scholarship is being offered in her memory starting in 2015 and will continue for at least the next 10 years based on the following criteria:
• Must be an art student pursuing some form of higher education.
• Must submit a short essay explaining why art is important in their lives.
• Must present a form of art to be judged.
• Must give a presentation explaining the art submitted.
Applications for this scholarship must be received by April first of each year. The presentation of the art will be completed during the month of April with the award being made the first of May.
