Alanna Tabor, 19, a resident of the City of Belleville and a senior at Belleville High School, won first place in the Senior Division of the Van Buren Public Schools District-Wide Art show on Saturday, May 4.
She said she plans to be a tattooist apprentice after she graduates and continue her traditional art. Alanna had a display of paintings, doll repaints and sculpted miniatures, including an apple pie that smelled like apples. She explained there is an ingredient you can add to the dough to add a scent to the finished art work.
She said she channels her Borderline personality disorder and PTSD through visual perception and expression.
“I think my work carries a lot of my mental baggage that I express, but people tend to ask questions about what they mean,” she said. “All I can say is that art is anything you make it.”
Art from students at every grade level were on display in the BHS cafeteria on Saturday.
