Second grade students at Edgemont Elementary are becoming young leaders in our community! On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the students took a field trip to visit the Belleville Museum, Horizon Park, City Hall, Victory Park and the Fred C. Fisher Library.
“We went on the field trip because we wanted to learn about Belleville. We are making brochures about our city,” explained second-grade student Irving Camacho. With hopes to bring visitors to our community and inform current residents, the Edgemont Eagles are creating their own Belleville brochures.
“One thing we did was met police officers and visit the police station. It was very cool and really fun because we got to meet Chief Berriman and go in the police cars!” said Abigail Cichowski, as she explained one topic she would include in her brochure.
“I liked seeing Booville because there is a lot of cool stuff. I can use that information in the Seasonal Highlights part for my brochure!” exclaimed student Madelyn Underwood.
The Edgemont Family would like to thank Tom Fielder, Carol Thompson, Tara McCann, Katie Dallos, Chief Berriman, all of the officers, and our many chaperons for their support and generosity. The students had a blast learning about their beloved community!
Editor’s Note: Ms. Porzondek said her second-grade students collaboratively wrote the information about their field trip in hopes it would be included in the Independent. She said she typed as they orally provided sentences, and then they edited together.
