Incumbent Sumpter Township Supervisor Tim Bowman won the Republican primary election on Aug. 5 and will face off against unopposed Democrat candidate for supervisor Nelson Po in the Nov. 6 general election.
This will be the only race left in Sumpter for the general election.
Republican results in the primary for supervisor were:
Tim Bowman – 449
Vincent Warren – 208
Sheena Barnes – 145
Democrats had one candidate for supervisor:
Nelson Po – 484
There were no Democrat candidates for township clerk or treasurer, so the lone Republicans will probably win the seats on Nov. 6, unless a popular write-in candidate appears.
Don LaPorte, an incumbent trustee, ran for clerk to fill the seat being vacated by Clerk Esther Hurst. LaPorte earned 624 votes in the primary.
Bart Patterson, incumbent treasurer, was unopposed and won 630 votes in the primary.
Four trustee positions need to be filled in the general election and only Republicans filed, so without further opposition these winners probably will take the seats in November.
Tim Rush – 510
John Honey – 509
Matt Oddy – 421
James Frazier – 386
Peggy Morgan – 324
Robert Lintner – 157
Tyler Thomas – 147
Ovidiu Suciu – 97
Sumpter voters also approved a new fire millage: 823, yes; 735 no.
Van Buren Township candidates unopposed
Van Buren Township candidates are all Democrat incumbents, except one, and all were unopposed in both the primary and general elections.
