Although it is believed that Van Buren Township is the only municipality in the state of Michigan to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for its employees, throughout the country and the world cities are issuing similar mandates. According to reports, vaccination mandates have been levied in France, Italy, and Australia, as well as in New York and California. Governmental restrictions are rising again as COVID-19 variants enter the picture.
But, should a governmental unit make its employees take vaccinations that are not fully approved by the FDA? Should it threaten their jobs, their pensions, and their health? While some say it doesn’t hurt you to get a COVID-19 shot, it does hurt some people. And, the rare but fatal blood clots have killed. We have local unsubstantiated stories of that happening.
The police officers in VBT who had contracted COVID on the job are still required to get the shots or be fired for insubordination. What is that about?
And, now cases are being reported of vaccinated people contracting COVID, as well. So, the emergency vaccines don’t solve the problem. Taking away employees’ freedom of choice and giving them a fear of what will be required next is not the way to keep loyal employees.
The township board needs to pull back on its threats. Some employees will not be bullied into following the board’s will. Mandate masks if you want to mandate.

Pretty sure it’s against your rights to mandate shots like that. I could be wrong of course. I know myself I am vaccinated, but I would not like it or tolerate it if I was mandated to get a vaccine. It’s my right to say no.
I agree that it is a person’s right to get vaccinated or not. But I also believe it is a Business/Employers right to not allow unvaccinated people in the building. As this is such a major health impact that has turn the entire world upside down, we as a society need to temporarily set some rights aside if it saves lives. Nobody should force you to get a shot, but for the safety of others around them, they have the right to say you are not allowed in.
Well if they mandate it, the Township will be responsible for any adverse reactions.
When was anyone on the council granted “health” authority over township employees? If anyone could claim that authority, it would be the County Health Department. If anyone is going to institute COVID “mandates”, it would seem necessary to identify and provide evidence of any health threat. It should be noted that NOBODY (not even the CDC, NIH, of Dr. Fauci), has provided the necessary proof that COVID-19 exists. The accepted proof of ANY virus is an isolate, which is obtained through a process of isolation. Until anyone can provide provide the proof, the threat does not exist. In a recent court case, in Alberta Canada, the court was unable to provide proof of CV-19 isolation and the court struck down all CV-19 mandates.
Umm, OK. I can by the Mr. Liberty part if you are saying it’s taking our freedom. But if if you are saying the virus doesn’t exist, all I’m hearing is Mr. Crackhead.
They should be held accountable if anything happens as a result of these mandates too, such as if an employee dies of complications with the vaccine.
In Ohio a woman fell Ill and died because of the mask mandate and her family sued Walmart for making her wear a mask and won.
Forgot to mention she died because she had a bad immune system and breathing problems and died from having the mask on too much. Walmart settled with the family.
Winning and settling are 2 different outcomes. Walmart settled because they didn’t want the press. The family did not WIN the lawsuit, nor does it prove they were right.
But how about this. If you want the township to be held liable if anybody has complications from the vaccine, then how about we also hold the people accountable for spreading the virus? I mean, if I work at the township and a coworker unknowingly infects me and I end up in the hospital, shouldn’t that person have to pay my bills? It’s easy to say the Insurance will pay it, but the township is the one who picks up the bill, so they are the ones paying for the hospital stay. So unless the person who is infected agrees to pick up the bill, why not allow the one who has to pay for the treatment put up regulations to safeguard themselves and their employees?
