On June 12 after a preliminary exam, 34th District Court Chief Judge Tina Brooks Green bound Adam Craig Plowman, 30, over to circuit court for a June 19 arraignment on the information.
Plowman is charged with aggravated stalking in Sumpter Township on March 24. He was lodged on bond of $100,000/10% and Judge Green agreed with Plowman’s court-appointed attorney Larry Polk to refer him to pretrial services for a review of his bond.
A jury trial has been set for Aug. 26 before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Hathaway.
The only witness brought for the preliminary exam was Sara Hall of Sumpter Township who said the defendant is her ex-boyfriend. She testified she got a personal protection order against him which was served March 13 by a Wayne County Deputy because he was already in custody.
She said he continued to contact her by phone and text messages. She said throughout March it was more than a thousand times.
“He sent me a picture of a gun and he said he was going to use it on me,” she said. “I had to leave my home to hide.”
Under cross examination, she testified she got a text message from Plowman telling her not to go to court. She said he told her he wanted to be back together. She said he would keep his hands off and treat her good and the charges could be dropped.
She said she blocked the telephone numbers he used, but he used other numbers to get through. She said he sent several videos of himself as text messages and she gave the videos to police.
Brian Jeffery Straight
Brian Jeffery Straight, 37, held his preliminary exam before Judge Green on a charge of delivery/manufacture of narcotics on July 20, 2018 in Van Buren Township. After the exam, she bound him over to circuit court for a June 26 arraignment on the information.
The only witness to testify was Officer Curtis Mowbray, who has been a VBT police officer for two years. He said on July 20 he was dispatched to a home on Van Buren Street where a female subject reported her boyfriend was overdosing. He testified he was alone and was joined by Officer Jordan Short. He said Brianna Barr told them her boyfriend was unconscious on the floor of the garage.
Officer Mowbray testified Officer Short gave the first dose of Narcan to Straight, which didn’t work, and he gave the second dose of Narcan which revived him.
Mowbray testified that Straight said a friend came over with the “dope” and he usually ingests pills, but this time he ingested narcotics.
Mowbray said Officer Short did a safety search, patting Straight down and searching his pockets. He found a clear bag with 25 folded-up lottery tickets. Mowbry said he believed it to contain heron/fentanyl and so didn’t open it. The Michigan State Police lab identified it as such.
Under cross examination by defense attorney James Humphries, Mowbray testified that they found no scale or money, but a clear glass smoking device was next to him on the floor.
At circuit court on June 28, Straight pled guilty to use of a controlled substance, reduced to a misdemeanor, and Judge Gregory Bill sentenced him to 12 months of probation. In return for his guilty plea, his charge of delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance was dismissed.
Keith Anthony Hamilton
Keith Anthony Hamilton, 22, waived his preliminary exam on two cases and was bound over to circuit court for June 19 arraignments on the information on both cases. Court-appointed attorney is Elizabeth Young.
Her client was brought to court from the Wayne County Jail.
Hamilton is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, malicious destruction of a building, malicious destruction of property, and domestic violence in Sumpter Township on May 26. Bond on that set of charges is $20,000/10%.
The other set of charges was fleeing and eluding police officer in a vehicle and driving while license suspended also on May 26. Bond there is $10,000/10%. At circuit court a calendar conference was set for July 9 on both cases.
Michael Thomas McClure
After a preliminary exam before Judge Green, Michael Thomas McClure, 41, was bound over to circuit court for a June 19 arraignment on the information on three charges: home invasion first degree, breaking and entering of a building, and aggravated assault. These happened in Van Buren Township on Oct. 25. Judge Green dismissed the fourth charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
McClure, who has a history being a fugitive from justice and was in shackles, was brought to court by guards from the Michigan Department of Corrections, where he is incarcerated on other charges.
His bond, set at $50,000/10% was reduced to $10,000/10% since he was already in prison. Retained attorney is Ronald McDuffie.
At circuit court his arraignment on the information was reset to July 9.
Heather Gwen Profitt
Heather Gwen Profitt, 41, waived her preliminary exam and Magistrate Lisa Martin bound her over to circuit court for a June 26 arraignment on the information. Her retained attorney is Michael Legris.
There was a plea offer and the disposition conference was set for July 10 before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Deborah Thomas.
Profitt is charged with identity theft and motor vehicle code – false certification in the City of Belleville. Bond of $10,000/10% had been posted.
