The Van Buren Civic Fund presented a check for $202,511 to Van Buren Township during the township board’s regular meeting June 4. Michael Kole of the Civic Fund said $200,000 is for the new splash pad planned by the VBT Downtown Development Authority and the $2,511 is to repair the museum’s Model T Ford.
Kole said the Van Buren Civic Fund was started in 2004 by Visteon with a $1 million pledge, with $500,000 available at once and the other $500,000 paid to match community donations dollar for dollar. Since then the Civic Fund has given away a million dollars to improve the local community.
