Madelyn Similo won top place in the spelling bee for third-grade students and David Mitchell was the top speller for fourth graders at the annual Keystone Academy Spelling Bee. They both will be representing their school at the National Heritage Academies’ Regional Spelling Bee on May 24.
All third-grade students at the school were given a spelling list to practice and each classroom identified the three top spellers from each class. These students competed for the top award. For the third grade, after the fourth round there were two remaining spellers and Madelynn won by correctly spelling the word “triumph.”
Fourth graders went through the same procedure to identify the top three spellers in each class and then these spellers competed. In the ninth round, David took the lead by correctly spelling the word “chocolate.”
