There has been a lot of buzz going around the district and at the board meetings, regarding Principal Tracy Bryant’s newest initiative at Rawsonville Elementary School.
Back in early December 2018, she came up with an idea and started recording “Bedtime Stories” and “Book Talks” on the green screen to ensure that every kid in her building could gain a LOVE for reading and to get the chance to enjoy a good bedtime story for the busy moms and dads that could not read to their kids.
This had such a positive impact on students and families, she decided to extend it and began having staff members join in. The pre-recorded postings go out every Sunday afternoon on the school’s social media outlets.
Not only does the principal and staff members have the opportunity to share some of their favorite stories, but it brings the students and their families together to listen to the stories, which builds a positive home-school relationship.
Due to the overwhelmingly response, Rawsonville took it a step further and also asked students and other stakeholders to participate and share stories on the green screen. Some of their stories have already been uploaded, but the rest will occur weekly, throughout the summer.
If that wasn’t enough, the school’s final RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) distribution in June, will be tied to all the stories that will launch over the summertime. Students will be able to pick a free book to add to their home library and read it along with the Bedtime Stories online.
Starting in the fall, each Bedtime Story will also be available in a special take-home book bag, so that families can read them together at home.
