In a statement on the Van Buren Public Schools website on Friday, School Supt. Pete Kudlak made the following statement concerning the many snow days the district has declared this winter.
“I am reaching out to talk to you about the large number of school cancellations. The State gives us six days of forgiven time automatically each year. Currently, we have had 11 days. Under law, we can apply to the State for an additional three days of forgiven time. We will be doing that and feel fairly confident that these days will be awarded.
“We are still over by two days at this point. We will be required to make these days up, as well as any more that we incur. I am telling you this to keep you informed and for your planning purposes.
“We are looking at all available days in our current calendar, including April 19 (Good Friday) as well as extending the school year into the week of June 17, as options. We will keep you updated as we get more information.”

Wonderful Michigan weather – miss it !!!
Why don’t they do like Indiana does and delay school for an hour or two for the temperature to rise and the roads to be plowed? I’ve never understood if it’s not safe for kids to go to school, why do parents have to go to work and risk being in a car accident? Just think how much money that would save in insurance claims.
