At about 8:20 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, Sumpter Township Police responded to a fatal accident at the top of the Carleton Farms Landfill, located at 28800 Clark Road.
Sumpter Public Safety Director / Police Chief Eric Luke said in a news release that the investigation is ongoing, but it appears that the 34-year-old male victim, a Canadian citizen working for a Canadian trucking company hauling trash to the landfill, experienced mechanical problems with his vehicle and was being assisted in maneuvering by a piece of heavy machinery.
At a point during this period, the victim exited his vehicle without knowledge of the machinery operator and was crushed to death by his vehicle when it was moved by the heavy machinery.
No further information is being released at this time, Director Luke said.
